Delft University of Technology
About Delft University of Technology
Delft University of Technology is the oldest, largest and most comprehensive university of technology in the Netherlands. With over 19,000 students and 2,500 scientists (including 400 full professors), it is an establishment of national importance and of significant international standing. The University collaborates on a structural basis with other international education and research institutes and has partnerships with governments, branch organizations, numerous consultancies, industry partners and companies from the small and medium business sectors. Energy is one of the most important research areas of the TU Delft as reflected by the Delft Energy initiative, supporting different energy related research within the university, Process and Energy institute, E-refinery and the Delft plan.
Role in project
PhD student 1 & 2 will join Dr Ekkes Brück and Dr Niels van Dijk at TU Delft to further explore the most promising compositions that are proposed from the first principle calculations (RU PhD student 8) and the combinatorial search (NEEL PhD student 9). We will prepare materials by melting techniques and powder metallurgy, tailor properties by heat treatment and perform macroscopic and microscopic characterization by Neutron diffraction, micro-beam x-ray diffraction, Mössbauer spectroscopy, magnetic measurements, specific heat in field and electrical transport measurements. The results of these in depth characterizations will help further improve the theoretical models and aid in further improving materials properties. PhD student 4, 5 & 6 will visit TU Delft for secondments.
