PhD student 7: High frequency regenerative thermomagnetic generators (TMG) with static electro-permanent magnets
Kamyar Dobakhti
Objectives
To develop solutions to the main challenges of small efficiency and small power of existing TMG devices by using the novel design of UL’s two patent pending ideas on electro-permanent magnets with the regeneration of magnetic energy and novel 20 Hz active mag-netic regenerative (AMR) cycle to reach TRL 6.
Expected Results
- Conceptual designs, simulations, numerical optimization, construction and testing of 20 Hz AMR with micro-hydraulic system
- Novel concept, simulations, optimization, construction and testing of high efficiency and high operating frequency electro permanent magnet system with regeneration of magnetic energy and tuneable magnetic field
- Integration, testing, benchmarking, demonstration of the 10W to 100W TMG for the use of heat sources between 40 to 100°C, and with the energy efficiency which strongly outperforms existing and thermoelectric devices.
